In my experience with small and mid-size companies, I have noticed that many do not protect themselves with adequate security measures. I have also seen that most of them operate under one of the following assumptions: they are a small company, and thus of no interest to hackers, or they think they can’t afford protection, and don’t make it a priority. Both these ideas are definitely wrong - once you are connected to the internet you are a target, no matter the size of your company.
Of all the issues facing CIOs these days, probably none is more challenging than cybersecurity. Literally every day we news about major cyber attacks being discovered. And these attacks are not just limited to smaller companies or run of the mill DDoS attacks, but major network penetrations everywhere from Fortune 500 companies to the Pentagon and the US military.
