Application Specialist Duties and Responsibilities
An application specialist is an individual trained in the use of desktop operating systems and client-side computer applications that typically run on a workstation or PC. While he or she may assist network administrators in the installation of client-server systems and applications, they typically install, configure, and maintain workstations or PC applications only. In addition, they may also be tasked with supporting hardware and peripherals depending on the level of support required for the job. Activities specific to hardware installation, configuration and maintenance include, adding memory, replacing failed hard drives and power supplies. Peripheral support may include replacing toner cartridges, un-jamming printers and installing printer drivers, to name a few. Furthermore, Application Specialists are often required to train end users in the operation of computer software, such as productivity applications or so-called office suites and customized line-of business applications.
