What would it take for a distro like this one to be recommended to most average desktop users? Are desktop users even the biggest computing market anymore? I deep dive review into the polished LTS release of Zorin OS 15. So.... It's a windows-style tweaked GNOME that you pay for? Wait, people are PAYING for this? LOL!
im getting this right now!
I tried Zorin 9 quite a while ago and liked it. I ended up buying the Zorin 9 Ultimate, and had it for years. A couple months ago I bought the Zorin 12.4 Ultimate and I like it even more. Since Microsoft isn't going to support Windows 9 starting in January I just might buy the Zorin 15 Ultimate for my laptop. I've heard so many bad things about Windows 8 and 10, I might as well go to an operating system that I like. Beside, Zorin 12.4 Ultimate only cost me a little over $21, and you can't beat the price.
It's a modified Gnome Shell.
Looks nice but it`s a very bland distro. Black text on white background is pretty boring. The menus are so simplistic. Not for me. $50 CDN is way too much as there is 100 others free Linux distro. Beside you can make the core version the same as the ultimate easily. You can find Windows Pro licences for less then $20 so it`s a hard sell.
I really don't see the point in paying for a distro like this at all. The fact that they are young devs speaks volumes. Thanks for the review though!
Zorin OS makes GNOME usable. This was the first option for my dad, but it was heavy for his old desktop (at least around 2016-2017). So I put Ubuntu Unity instead. Also, you can't really call the kernel "outdated" if Canonical is still patching it.
Which distro you use ? Any suggestions for a distro for Machine learning work.
It's hard to see the point of Zorin. There are too many Linux distros, and Zorin is just another one. If you want a Win-like distro just go for Cinnamon Mint and be done with it. Frankly, your review seems like just another superficial tour of a distro focused on eye candy. To help people shake loose the goddammed Microsoft tar baby pick a widely used distro (Cinnamon Mint) and focus on how to choose and configure software for common workflows. For example, give guidance for Microsoft Office and Adobe application replacements. Unfortunately, Linux equivalents (Libre Office, etc.) of these just aren't very good. THAT is the main impediment (apart from availability of pre-installed Linux on new PCs) to wider adoption of Linux. Superficial distro reviews are easy but they really aren't that useful.
So far I want to install MX and now Zorin 15. Keep 'em coming. Thanks from a Windows user.
A Great Distribution, very easy to use and quick and efficient, things just work, and you can get work done easily. I find it to be calm and relaxing in appearance.
I bought Zorin and also tried the Free DEEPIN OS and I think Deepin is better than Zorin
That's a very clean and polished desktop.
My mother has been a Linux user for 10 years. What got her was the computer worked out of the box and she would only need to double-click an icon on the desktop and tell me what the number was for her to get anything fixed.
Hmmm I've purchased a Intel sbc just to abuse a bit and have a Acer touch display zorin OS makes a fair bit of sense as the core installation to most of my tasks .
Wonder if the touch would run on Surface GO?
So if you pay for Zorin OS is that a one time payment for the distro or a yearly subscription?
I love the style of this desktop. It's very clean, crisp, and modern. It's kind of like Pantheon except without feeling like a MacOS knock-off or having a bunch of dumb restrictions on customization.
Q4OS is more look-like-window$ than Zorin
Zorin is another distribution take keeps getting better with every release (Solid & reliable out of the box). Great job IG!
